I’m Kate, I enjoy making things. I’ll try my hand at any craft. I started out with drawing when I was little, I’ve always loved drawing and being creative.
I got more into art in school and using various media. Then I went to art school and did an art and design course, specialising in textiles. That’s how I got into sewing and textile crafts. I then started a degree in surface pattern design for textiles but I didn’t like it very much so switched over to costume construction for stage and screen. I absolutely loved this course and was able to learn skills in pattern cutting, making, design, print making and dressing.
During uni I was really lucky to get lots of work experience in the industry and after uni I started working as a costume maker for Welsh National Opera.

I continued to work at WNO and as a freelance costume maker up until 2018 when I made the dubious decision to do a degree in midwifery. I’ve been working as a midwife since 2020 and I had my 3rd child in 2022.
So things have been mildly chaotic for the last few years but the one constant in my life has been the desire and need to make things. I’ve dabbled in various mediums but ultimately for me it always comes back to sewing ❤️ It’s my passion, my talent and my skill.
Now my youngest it getting a bit older I’ve been able to come back to doing more sewing and making again which I’m overjoyed about.
“All work and no play makes Katie…something something.”

I’m quoting the Simpsons more than the Shining sorry.
But yeah, do what you love otherwise, what’s the point.
