Introduction to Machine Sewing

Do you have a sewing machine?……would you like to get it out of the box? 🙂

If you would like some help in exploring your machine and mastering some of the basics of machine sewing then why not come along and join us for a day of fun and creativity!

We will learn the basics of how to thread the machine, wind bobbins, use all the dials and stitches and alter tension and stitch length. We will then look at simple seams, gathers and pleats and also introduce you to zips and buttonholes!

During the course of the day you will practise all your techniques by making a simple cushion cover with a zip or button fastening.

So why not treat yourself to half a metre of fabulous fabric a zip or 2 buttons to match and come along to get to grips with your machine!……what will you make next??

Cost £50.00 (includes all materials for practise, but not for the cushion cover, a light lunch and refreshments)

 

Alteration Station!

Saturday 15th June 2013 10:30 – 4:30pm

Would you like to be able to do some simple alterations such as changing a zip, taking in a waistband, altering the length of a skirt or trousers? Maybe you are tired of ‘wonder webbing’ everything together? Or maybe you’d like to get involved in the ‘make-do-and-mend’ trend that is all around us!

Stop throwing away clothes because they need a little mending, learn to make simple repairs and alterations and you’ll save yourself a fortune! You’ll also be able to buy in vintage shops knowing that you can alter clothes slightly for a perfect fit!

Come and join us …..you know it makes sense….

Cost £48 (includes lunch and refreshments and basic materials. You are encouraged to bring along an item of clothing that needs mending/altering so that you can put your new skills into practise straight away!)

Introduction to Machine Sewing – 5 wk Course – £95

Every Monday 7:00 – 9:30pm, begins Mon 3rd June – Mon 8th July 2013

These sessions will guide you from the basics of threading your machine, winding your bobbin and using the basic stitches on the machine all the way to creating seams, darts, piping, buttonholes, zips etc and you’ll put all these techniques into practise by designing and making your own bag!

If you want to get to grips with your machine, learn practical sewing skills and build your confidence, then this is the course for you! With small groups and practical help and advice at every stage, you’ll be the master of your machine in no time!

Cost – £95 (includes practise materials and refreshments, but not the fabric for your personal project)

Follow a Commercial Pattern – Machine Sewing

Every Tuesday 7:00- 9:00, begins Tuesday 4th June- Tue 9th July 2013

If you can use a sewing machine but would love to expand your skills and are keen to follow a commercial pattern, then this is the perfect course for you!

Bring along a pattern that you are keen to have a go at or we can help you with some pattern choices and over the 5 weeks you will learn how to cut your pattern to the size you require, how to adapt and adjust it to fit your size and shape, how to decipher all those confusing instructions and how to create a wonderful, bespoke and unique item of clothing…..your seamstress journey has just begun!

How to Book

If you would like to book a place on one of our wonderful classes then please give Calon Yarns a ring on 02920 211508 or send an email at info@calonyarns.co.uk telling us which date you would like and give us your full name , address and contact number.

We will then ask for a deposit of around 40% of the total fee to secure your place, you can either pop in to pay or pay by card over the phone. This deposit is non-refundable. You would then need to pay the balance of your workshop/course fee two weeks before the start date. We are unable to offer a refund for any workshops or courses that are unattended, but you are more than welcome to send someone else in your place!

We will always try to be accommodating, so if you have any problems with booking or have to cancel then let us know with as much notice as possible and we will try to help.
